While Wellington’s small- to medium-sized businesses are improving their collective web presence, they are still lagging behind much of the rest of the world, says Google.
Only one-third of New Zealand’s small- to medium-sized businesses have websites, despite the fact that eight out of 10 Kiwis look for products and services online. "We are seeing a huge amount of consumers looking for local queries," Google New Zealand country manager Tony Keusgen said.
"There are more [searches] for lawyers than Lady Gaga but a real lack of supply of information from small to medium businesses when only a third have a website. It's a huge gaping hole of information."
According to Keusgen, internet marketing would help such businesses grow and connect with their respective geographic bases.
